ArcGIS is a great way to discover and use maps. Maps come to life in ArcGIS. Tap the map, or use your current location and discover information about what you see. With a subscription to ArcGIS Online, organizations can manage all of their geographic content in a secure, cloud-based Esri environment. The Pictometry extension works inside the ArcGIS ArcMap applicationto aid in navigation with a Pictometry dataset. The extension ispackaged with Pictometry's Electronic Field Study (EFS) software, andis available to Indiana University faculty and staff throughIUware. Configuring the EFS application for ArcGIS extension

To link ArcGIS and the EFS software, you must have basemap data for ArcGIS. UITSGIS suggests you usethe Indianapolis vector data provided by the Indiana Spatial DataPortal. You can find the Indianapolis vector data at:

You will need to match the projection and units of both the base mapdata and the Pictometry imagery. To set up the EFS software for theArcGIS extension, follow these steps:

1. Open your Pictometry EFS software, select File, and thenselect New Workspace.
2. In the Load Base Map window that appears,'INMARI04-093-WHS' should be highlighted. Click OK.
3. Verify that 'Marion-IN.pmi' is highlighted. ClickOK.
4. Select File, and then Save Workspace as. Saveyour workspace in the c:/Program Files/Pictometryfolder with the filename Pictometry.pwf.

   Note: You must name your workspace Pictometry.pwf for the ArcGIS extension to work.

5. Select Edit, and then Change Units. If you are usingthe Indianapolis vector data, click the Set Coordinate Systembutton. Input the following parameters:
   • US State Plane 1983
   • Indiana Eastern Zone
   • NAD 1983
   • US Survey Feet
   
   To close the window, click OK twice.
6. Select Navigate, and then Image ToolProperties. Under the Search and Sort tab, verify allboxes under the 'Limit image search by' heading are checked, and makesure the Sort Image Thumbnails by Hit Quality sort and Cardinal sortbox is checked. To close the window, click OK.
7. Save your workspace and exit the application.

Configuring ArcGIS extension on ArcGIS 9.0

1. In the C:IUwareElectronic Field Study folder,double-click the ArcGIS ext forPictometry folder. Copy the files in this folder and paste them into thedirectory C:Program FilesPictometry.
2. To start the ArcGIS ArcMap application, from theStart menu, select Programs, then ArcGIS,and then select ArcMap.
3. Once ArcMap is open, select Tools, and thenCustomize. In the Categories window, under theCommands tab, select UIControls.
4. Select New UIControl. Select UIToolControl, andthen click the Create and Edit button.
5. In the Microsoft Visual Basic editor window that opens,delete all the text.
6. From the Insert menu, select File. From yourc:Program FilesPictometry folder, select Pictometry Image Tool for ArcGIS.txt, and then clickOpen. This will insert Visual Basic code in the window.
7. From the Debug menu, select Compile Normal. Closethe Visual Basic window.
8. You should now be back in ArcMap. Select Tools, and thenCustomize.
9. In the Categories window, under the Commandstab, select UIControls.
10. In the commands pane, drag and drop the tool onto themain ArcGIS toolbar (in the gray area).
11. Right-click the Pictometry Image Tool you just created inthe toolbar. You can change the button's image (icon) if youwish. Close the dialog box.

Working with Pictometry imagery through ArcGIS

1. Once the Pictometry Image Tool is created, add base map layers(e.g., Indianapolis vector data) to ArcMap.
2. Zoom to a location on the base map where you would like to seePictometry imagery.
3. Select the Pictometry Image Tool. Notice the cursor haschanged to a globe. Click a point on the base map. The coordinatesfor that point will appear in a window. Click OK.
4. If the EFS software is not already running, it will open,displaying your area of interest. When you click another point on theArcGIS base map, the imagery in the EFS software will change to thatlocation.
